First Year Priorities For Online Marketers

So you have chosen the best home based business opportunity, and now you may be asking yourself, “How do I prioritize my time in order to make the most money my first year?”  Good question and I will give you the top three priorities for your first year.

Marketing online is a simple concept even though it takes a lot of skill and knowledge to implement correctly.  The concept – find a product, put up a website, and drive massive traffic to it by getting high rankings on Goggle.

Your first year here are the three things you need to focus on:

  1. Market using keywords that will give you a high rank in Goggle.
  2. Understand Goggle and what you can do to rank high for your keywords.  That means understanding the basics of Search Engine Optimization.
  3. Learn basic site building methods that allow you to put up a site in a matter of hours once you have gathered your research, written a few articles, and organized all the information needed.

So let’s look at these three things in a little more detail.

First Priority: Keywords are the most important part of making money with online marketing.  You can do everything perfect, but if you are competing for the wrong keyword, you will never be found on the first few pages of a Google search.  If you have the best product in the world but can’t be found what good is it?  Here are a few keys for choosing a good keyword.  Your keyword should have:

  • Fewer than 10,000 search results (this is your competition to get on the first page of Google’s search rankings.)
  • More than 100 searches per month – the more the better.  300 searches a month is a decent amount, but obviously a thousand would be better.
  • The keyword should be a buying word.  Example, “Valentine Day Facts” is a bad keyword because it doesn’t show an intention to buy.  A good keyword showing buying intention would be “Valentine Day Gifts.”

A tool I use that gives me this information quickly is Micro Niche Finder.  It not only gives me the information for the above criteria but so much more.

Second Priority: You need to understand how Google ranks sites, and what you can do to be on the first page of the search results for the keyword.  You will not master this skill in a year or even in several years, but studying Search Engine Optimization is essential  in your success as an online marketer.  I have purchased and have studied many SEO courses.  Many are complicated, and to be honest I have thrown my hands up a time or two because of the complexity of SEO.  Presently, I really like Commission Ritual because it is not overly complicated and teaches how to put up mini-sites quickly and with high Google’s rankings.

Third Priority: Learn basic site building methods that are easy to set up and can get you high Google rankings.  The above-mentioned training course Commission Ritual covers this very well and provides templates to make it easy for you to get started.

After you become proficient in the top three priorities, you can start to tweak your sites to improve your conversion rates.  But remember these are not important your first year.  So for the first year don’t worry about:

  • Learning how to monitize traffic so you can make more money.
  • Expanded understanding of tools, and tactics to help improve the 3 priorities mentioned above.
  • Advanced web design.
  • Understanding how to put better graphics on your website.
  • Changing the colors of your website.
  • How to change the headers of your website.
  • How to change the fonts of your website.

These things don’t make you money.  They can make your site look more appealing but the name of the game is for you to be profitable as soon as possible.  So for the first year concentrate on the top 3 priorities, and you will be surprised how easy it can be to make money online.
